Las Vegas Rider Injured in Bicycle Accident

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed yet another bike accident. This one occurred in the Winchester area at the intersection of McLeod Drive and Sahara Avenue early last Friday afternoon. According to a report, police were not immediately aware of the cause of the bicycle accident and could not confirm or deny that the biker was using the crosswalk.

A spokeswoman for the police department said the biker was taken to a local hospital with injuries sustained after being struck by the car. The extent of the injuries, however, was not clear.

Sentence of Las Vegas Driver Leaves Something to be Desired

The man responsible for a deadly hit-and-run accident last September in Las Vegas was sentenced this past week to 12-96 months in jail. The official charge to which the driver pled guilty was felony evasion. But, police also suspected that the driver was under the influence at the time of the collision. Unfortunately, the perpetrator was not located until twelve hours after the accident hiding out at a nearby high school.

Since police had no evidence the man was under the influence, prosecutors were willing to accept a plea to a lesser offense. Had the driver been found guilty of the hit-and-run while under the influence, his sentence last week would have almost assuredly been higher. The deadly car accident occurred on I-215 near Sahara Drive.

Distractions on the road can include another car accident

There are many distractions that can pull a driver's attention off of the road. Of course, these distractions aren't limited to things going on inside the vehicle - external events can be distracting as well. In one recent car accident, the cause may actually have been a previous crash and the ensuing backup.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reported that the original accident occurred when a truck rolled across the southbound lanes of I-15 near Sloan. Witnesses say that the driver was maneuvering recklessly before eventually losing control. The crash happened around 3 a.m. last Thursday and caused traffic on the interstate to back up for miles.

Motorcycle accidents focus of awareness campaign in Las Vegas

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has declared May to be Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Motorcycle accidents have claimed the lives of 37 people in Nevada already this year with the latest fatality happening locally in the Las Vegas area. These tragedies have spurred authorities into action.

The goal of the promotion is to get both motorcyclists and drivers of other vehicles to take greater safety precautions. Members of the motorcycling community have been calling on authorities to raise awareness, as inattentive or otherwise negligent car and truck drivers have become a dangerous hazard for bikers.

Two killed in separate Las Vegas car accidents

A deadly day in North Las Vegas is being blamed on alcohol. Two men were killed last Friday in two separate car accidents. Police believe that alcohol was a factor in both crashes.

The first accident occurred around 5:30 in the evening near Craig Road and Home Depot Drive. A preliminary investigation revealed that a sedan slowed to make a right hand turn when it was struck from behind. The collision knocked the sedan into a light pole killing the driver. The woman that rear ended the sedan was booked on felony DUI resulting in death.

Las Vegas car accident injures local police officer

How to respond to an emergency vehicle's sirens is one of the first things that new drivers learn in driver's education courses. Nevertheless, when the moment is upon us, drivers do not always react appropriately. Such was the case last week when a marked police vehicle on its way to the scene of an emergency was struck by an SUV in downtown Las Vegas.

The car accident occurred at the intersection of Charleston and Nellis boulevards. The officer was taken to the University Medical Center with minor injuries. The female driver of the SUV remained at the scene to be treated for her own minor injuries. Fortunately, no one sustained a serious injury. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Prosecutors Pursuing Conviction of Driver in Fatal Las Vegas Car Accident

The district attorney has gone public with claims that a juvenile detention escapee from California was drunk when he caused a fatal accident on I-15. The car accident took place just outside of Las Vegas and claimed the lives of five Southern California family members. Two others suffered injuries in the crash. The seven family members were returning to California after visiting a sick relative in Denver.

According to the prosecutors' claims, the 18-year-old driver that caused the crash had a blood alcohol content of 0.12, well above Nevada's legal driving limit of 0.08. These claims have led to seven felony driving under the influence charges and two misdemeanors. An initial evidence hearing is scheduled for May 15.
