The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had yet another eventful weekend. The police received a call several weekends ago that two cars had sideswiped and began shooting at one another.
Police responded to the call and shortly thereafter, one of the police officer's squad cars collided with a Jeep Cherokee, ending his pursuit of the suspects. The car accident involving the officer occurred near Meadows Lane and Decatur Boulevard.
The department reported that the officer was taken to the University Medical Center, having suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep had only minor injuries.
Further information about the shooting was not immediately reported.
What is clear is that just when Las Vegas residents think that the roads couldn't get any more dangerous, a scene out of an action move plays out in their backyard.
Reckless drivers abound. This much we know. Even without the rare gun-toting operator, there are plenty of individuals doing irresponsible things on the road. From texting to speeding and everything in between, Las Vegas residents are subjected to all sorts of reckless driving behavior.
Fortunately, they have recourse. A civil claim allows victims and their families to collect compensation for the lapse of judgment of another. One poor decision by someone else can turn another's life upside down. From enormous medical bills to lost wages, a car accident can be devastating to a family.
When a car accident is caused by a police chase, it is also necessary to determine whether the police were negligent in their actions.
Local attorneys can help car accident victims through this process.
