Local authorities do not tolerate drunk driving. Similarly, compensation is often available for the victims of drunk drivers who are injured in accidents through personal injury lawsuits. A motorist who is injured in an automobile accident may be entitled to compensation if the injuries are the result of the actions of a negligent or careless driver. The injured driver or passenger may be recover compensation for lost wages, medical bills and even pain and suffering in some circumstances.
